Ministry Strategy and Outcomes

ss leaving hishouseofhopeHis House of Hope - Bet Eman is a ministry of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Sudan, operated by Harvesters Reaching the Nations (click here for hospital website link). Currently, it is closed due to civil war.  It is a 40+ bed hospital and clinic dedicated to the medical and spiritual care of women and children and to the training and empowerment of medical professionals in South Sudan.  The mission is "to invite others to follow Jesus as we provide, teach, and empower health care of women and children in South Sudan." The hope is that as the people seek medical care, they will also encounter the truth and hope found only in Jesus. Medically, staff strives to decrease child and maternal mortality by increasing the number of attended births, providing operative deliveries (C-sections, vacuum, forceps), providing antenatal care, training local health providers, providing pediatric care, and doing health education at the center and in the community. Jeff served as the medical director and actively provided medical care in this setting from 2007-2017.

As of May 2017, we have settled in Moyo District, Uganda, where 175,000 South Sudanese are living as refugees.  Jeff now volunteers with Medical Teams International (MTI- www.medicalteams.org), which is the implementing partner of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees for refugee healthcare in Moyo District.  He provides consultations, ultrasound scanning services, and Continuing Medical Education for the staff at 6 different Health Centers throughout the refugee settlements in Moyo District.  He also rounds in the Moyo District Hospital, helping with staff education, system improvement, and directly caring for pediatric and maternity patients.

Elizabeth and the children volunteer at the Moyo Babies Home, where they read and interact with the children on a regular basis.  Through our daily work and lives, we seek to disciple healthcare professionals and others from the community as God leads us in relationship. We continue our discipleship of our own precious children as well! The church is strengthened as individuals grow in knowing Jesus.

We seek to walk out our call to be a family committed to Christ and struggling with daily issues of life amongst those in Moyo, Uganda-- people from South Sudan and Uganda.  Elizabeth continues to nurture and homeschool our 8 youngest children (Alex is working in the US). This gives others a picture of an intact Christian family.
